Helpless

I wrote this in light of my daughter’s fight with depression. I can’t help her the way I want to. It has to come from her. I can take her to all the therapy appointments and doctor appointments but still it has to come from her.

I feel so helpless, like a caged bird
Who can only watch the world outside
As it goes on without me, unaware
Of my pain and my sorrow.

I feel so helpless, like a drowning man
Who can’t reach the surface for air
As the water closes in around me,
Tugging me down into darkness.

I feel so helpless, like a lost child
Who can’t find their way home
As the night falls and the shadows grow,
Enveloping me in fear.

  1. Dear Nancy

I hope this letter finds you well and thriving. I wanted to take a moment to express my admiration for your incredible strength and courage. Your ability to overcome fear and move forward despite it is truly inspiring.

I’ve witnessed you face challenges that would make others falter, yet you never let fear define your path. Instead, you’ve used it as a stepping stone, transforming it into a catalyst for growth. Your determination and resilience shine brightly, lighting the way for those around you.

It’s remarkable to see how you’ve embraced uncertainty with open arms, turning it into an opportunity for self-discovery and personal development. Your willingness to step out of your comfort zone and confront your fears head-on is a testament to your unwavering spirit.

Remember that moving forward doesn’t mean you have to be fearless; it means acknowledging your fears and still choosing to take those steps. Your journey serves as a reminder that strength isn’t the absence of fear but the triumph over it.

As you continue on your path, know that your friends and loved ones stand beside you, cheering you on every step of the way. Your ability to overcome fear and move forward sets an example for us all, reminding us that within our fears lies our greatest potential.

Keep shining brightly, my dear friend. Your journey is an inspiration, and I am grateful for you.

    With admiration,
    Bernardo

  2. Awe thank you so much. At times I feel like I do not know what I am doing, but I hope as honest as I am trying to be in my poetry, and work, that it could help someone else. Thank you for the kind words.
