The Tapestry of Poison

The tapestry of life has threads of gloom,
Where toxic darkness drains the spirit’s bloom.
Some things in life are toxic, subtly sly,
Environments that stifle, habits that deny
Our health, or institutions built on lies—
The silent poisons that before us rise.

As harmful are the ties that bring us pain,
Some people in life who are toxic, they remain
Emotional vampires, constant critics cold,
Passive aggressors, stories to be told
Of manipulation, thriving on the storm,
Suffocating potential, leaving us worn.

Beyond the things and people we may face,
Some activities are toxic in this space.
The compulsions offering distraction’s grace,
But long-term regret we cannot erase:
The relentless pursuit, the endless scroll,
The cycles that entrap and take their toll.

So why do we still use these things we know?
Is it comfort, fear, or letting inertia grow?
And why do we still talk to these people too?
Is it guilt, obligation, hope that’s often through?
Why on the altar of connection’s name,
Do we sacrifice our peace to feed their flame?

If the outcome’s negative, why do we stay?
Why do we still do these activities every day?
The self-sabotage, the deeply set-in need,
Why do we torment ourselves by doing the same things repeatedly indeed?
A closed, agonizing loop of self-inflicted harm,
Where inertia holds us in its harmful arm.

But the moment of reckoning demands its due,
A crystallizing truth, unflinching, strong, and new:
Enough! I am done! a line across the sand,
The absolute refusal, a sovereign command.
To the source of the poison, the message is clear,
Take your toxicity and your self-righteous attitude and leave me here.

Leave me be, so I can move on and find my peace,
Grant me the space for wounds to heal and cease.
Leave me be and stop pretending you ever cared,
The charade of concern, its hollow core laid bare.
Leave me be and let me live my life as it should be,
Unburdened by your shadow, finally free.

My future is my own, not for your design,
Leave me be and stop pretending that you ever cared is the final sign.
Severing the chains of a love that was a lie,
Walking into freedom beneath a clear, blue sky.

Where hidden truths with darkness hide.

Photo by Dids . on Pexels.com

The brush poised, a question it holds,
Why does my canvas feel cold?
Colors swirl, emotions unfurl,
Yet silence echoes in the world.

Is it the stroke, too bold, too bright?
Or whispers lost in fading light?
Perhaps the theme, too dark, too deep,
No eyes to dive where secrets sleep.

Maybe the world craves shallow hues,
Sunlit smiles and morning dews.
My brushstrokes delve in shadows wide,
Where hidden truths with darkness hide.

But wait, dear heart, before you grieve,
Not all eyes miss what you achieve.
Though unseen, a seed you sow,
A quiet bloom for hearts that know.

A soul adrift may find your shore,
And see the depths you yearned to pour.
A tear may fall, a smile ignite,
For your unspoken, hidden light.

So paint, dear heart, with passion’s hand,
Let whispers dance across the land.
For even stars unseen by night,
Still guide the lost with silvered light.

One day, a hand may brush your own,
And whispers turn to songs unknown.
Then you’ll know, with tears aglow,
Your worth shines far, though whispers low.

So breathe, dear heart, and let it be,
Your art’s a gift, set spirits free.
And in the silence, find your voice,
A masterpiece, a silent choice.

Things I learned Along the Way: Book Covers (Indie Writer Series # 2)

As an indie writer, you learn things over time. I am not by any means a successful writer. I am still putting more time and money in than I am getting out. Let’s just say I will not be stopping my day job anytime soon. Needless to say, there are things we learn, and I would like to share some of those with the readers of my blog over time.
Today, well yesterday I learned that even though I paid an artist for my cover art, they still use stock photos and someone else could use my stock photo. I assumed, and wrongly so, that if I pay an artist for artwork it is their artwork and no one else could use it. Well in this case, my artist used a stock photo. In other cover art this particular artist did for me, they did extensive edits, so it no longer looks like the original photo.

So here is an example

This is my book cover:

In this case it has changed so much that it does not look like the original but in another case, it was identical. Needless to say, I am redoing the cover.

So, I decided why to spend 200 dollars on a cover when it is just stock photos?

So here is one that was made for me. I don’t know if it was stock photos, but I paid 200 dollars for it and now I wonder why I did that. And next to it is one I made this morning. Since I am making this into a series, I want all the covers to look the same.

Obviously the one made by the artist is better, but is it worth 200 dollars and the chance for someone to copy it? Heck, they could copy the ones I made without me paying 200 dollars.

Just something I wanted to share with other writers. I was quite upset last night when I saw the exact same cover for this book on someone else’s book. Yes, I am redoing this cover.

Chances are if you get a copy of Maeve with this cover, it will be the original cover as I am changing it, so it does not look like anyone else’s cover. Things you learn….

Artwork

I started drawing for a children’s book for my daughter Zelda.   Someone suggested I put them on Deviant art. Please follow me if you have Deviant art and check out the illustrations! The book is already written, but the illustrations are taking longer.  Though I never really drew this way before.
